The stalactite caves of Nerja

The Cuevas de Nerja are one of the most important stalactite caves in Europe. The entrance to this extensive limestone cave system was discovered in 1959 by children playing.
Inside, we encounter a series of karstic scooping out with stalagtites and stalagmites created by leaching 500 million years ago. The caves were established as early as 15,000 BC. inhabited by hunters. This is evidenced by murals, which are not accessible to visitors.
Visiting hours are daily from 10:00 to 14:00 and from 16:00 to 18:30, in the summer from 10:00 to 19:30.
Each summer, the caves host a music festival of classical and folkloric performances of international standard.

This beautiful beach presents itself to us with the imposing background of the Sierra Almijara, from which you can see the summit of the “Alto del Cielo”. Then we come to the cave “Cueva del Pirata” (pirate cave) and to the waterfall of Maro, whose water falls in a radiant rain from remarkable heights.
